Traditional Dinner?
Interested in an authentic Christmas feast? Plan on skipping the turkey. Scholars tell us that, at the time of Christ's birth in Bethlehem, fish and chicken would've been the most popular meats, with beef and lamb being reserved for special occasions. Rounding out the table might have been cheese, barley bread, lentils, eggs, and fruit. It wasn't until the Victorian era that turkey became the most popular Christmas meat, surpassing goose.

Delicious food is an integral part of many Jewish celebrations, and Hanukkah is no exception. One of the most popular treats, a fried potato pancake called a latke, may include ingredients like cheese, onion, and zucchini, among others. The olive oil used to fry latkes symbolizes the miracle of the Menorah oil that lasted 8 days during the re-dedication of the temple. Brisket is a traditional Hanukkah protein, but chicken is also popular. To round things out, the feast may include jelly doughnuts, challah bread, and festive drinks.
